I am so excited about this weekend's "State of the Black Union" (SOBU), which airs on C-SPAN with Tavis Smiley. This is the 10th anniversary for the event and Tavis, love him or hate him, you have to give him props for getting black thinkers together in a common dialogue. The event is going back to it's roots to the Los Angeles Convention Center, starting at 11(ET), on Saturday, February 28, 2009.

I have watched this every year and am always educated, motivated and anticipating becoming a better me. With the election of an African American president, I think now more than ever blacks need to take control of themselves and make it happen. Whatever that is for you, you make the call. We can no longer sit around and be spectators of life, but we have to be participants in our own comeuppence. Whoa is me is not acceptable anymore, not that it ever was, but now we have a call to action. We now have something even greater to aspire to, may that is to be a better person, more education, have better relationships or to be better parents.

I know that I have some new boost me up every week, but I am sincere in my plea. As a people we built this country and we need to start walking like "we are somebody." Not with arrogance, but with boldness because we know we have dotted all the "i's" and crossed the "t's." Psst... come closer, yeah you, when you are the shit, trust me when I tell you, EVERYONE KNOWS IT. You don't have to spend your time shouting it to the world, or buying things you cannot afford, greatness has a certain walk and behaves in a certain way. Greatness also has a swagger that cannot be ignored, PAY ATTENTION!!!!

The Huffington Post has an article today, which I have attached, that is about the President meeting with the members of the Black Caucas. It goes for interesting read, and it might jump start more than ever why we need to start being aware of what's going on in the world, and especially in our own communities. And, by community I don't necessarily mean just in your rich neighborhood, I mean people who have your skin tone.
